Liiketoiminnan turvallisuus Venäjällä ja Kiinassa -seminaari
(Seminar on Business Security in Russia and China)

Time: 14.12.2011, 14:00-15:30 (+coffee)
Place: Palace, Conference hall (Eteläranta 10, Helsinki)

The Center for Markets in Transition (CEMAT) at the Aalto University School of Economics organized a concluding seminar of the Business Security in Russia and China project on December 14th, 2011 in Helsinki. The seminar presented the results and offerings of the project completed this autumn, and discussed the topics of business security and preparation for business risks in Russia and China. The study had aroused great interest among Finnish companies, and, within the project, CEMAT had interviewed more than 100 Finnish companies that had business operations in the target countries.

The project on Business Security in Russia and China was funded by the safety and security programme of the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes). CEMAT was responsible for the implementation of the project. The objectives of the project were, first, to shed light on the contents and meaning of the security concept as a factor affecting the internationalization strategies of companies, and second, to improve the readiness of the Finnish companies to prepare for business and security risks when operating in the rapidly changing business environments of Russia and China.

The detail information on the seminar can be found at the Finnish website .

Seminar: Europe at the crossroads - where are we heading?

Time: Tuesday, 29 November 2011 at 13.15-16.15
Place: European Commission Representation in Finland, Malminkatu 16
Organizers: Embassy of the Republic of Poland and Aalto University, School of Economics, Center for Markets in Transition (CEMAT)

Europe is currently struggling with a serious debt crisis, which has led to speculations about the collapse of the euro area. During the past 18 months, the EU, the European Central Bank and the IMF have been desperately trying to rescue Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Italy but the situation only seems to worsen. There is currently little confidence in the market on the ability of the European leaders to resolve the situation and even some prominent supporters of the euro are becoming more skeptic. The debt crisis touches also other European Union member countries outside the euro area. Will the Europe be able to get a grip on the situation? Will it resume the credibility in the financial markets? What kind of measures should be taken to stabilize the situation? Will the euro area collapse? What can be done to retain the competitiveness of the European economy?

The seminar marked the Polish presidency of the European Union.
